SKY Camp

SKY (Summer 'Katholic' Youth) Camp is a collaboration of the Buescher, Kane, Miller, and Crotty families beginning in 1987. Junior high campers came to St. Stephen Parish, Lawrence, each summer through 1989. Presently, camp for youth entering grades 6 and 7 the following fall is held at Manna Resort near Fairfield, NE. Camp for youth entering grades 8 and 9 in the fall is held at Camp Kateri near McCool Junction, NE. A Board of Directors now directs Catholic SKY as one of the youth programs of the Family Life Office.

Lay Directors, Priest Spiritual Directors, Sisters, Seminarians, adult and teen counselors staff the camps each summer. Additional volunteer staff include cooks, musicians, lifeguards, and camp nurses.

Over 350 youth entering grades 6 to 9 attended camps in the summer of 2003 with approximately 125 high school and/or college students volunteering as camp counselors and assistants to the Camp Directors and cooks.

Camp activities include Mass, swimming, catechesis, skits, Reconciliation, campfires, basketball, crafts, music, archery, and a multitude of outdoor games. Each camper receives an "official SKY t-shirt" displaying the current year's theme.
