Abortion

Is it a sin to be pro-choice in the matter of abortion?

Most likely it is. Being pro-choice in abortion appears to fall in the category of "cooperation in evil" or aiding another in sin." The Second Vatican Council called abortion an abominable crime and a heinous mortal sin. Cooperation or aiding in such a crime and sin makes one an accomplice and guilty along with the direct perpetrator.

Are the unborn babies, slain by abortion, destined to go to hell?

No. It would be a violation of God's justice that anyone would be damned to hell who would not freely choose to commit a mortal sin and then die in such a state. Obviously, such babies do not do such a thing. We do not know what happens to unbaptized infants who die. God did not tell us. Some theologians, following St. Augustine, postulate that they are in a state of natural happiness for all eternity. St. Augustine called this "limbo." Other theologians speculate that God gives such infants a moment of enlightenment, when they can freely choose to love God, and if they choose rightly, they are saved and in heaven. As for certitude in these matters, we have none, because God did not choose to reveal an answer to us.
